Onion and Hair Dryer

Beth in North Carolina - best
My 2 year old went to bed last night pulling on her right ear and complaining of an ear ache. I immediately went to the web and found this site. She could not sleep (waking up every 20 mins. or so howling in pain) so I tried the 1/2 freshly cut onion on her ear first. Can I tell you how difficult it is to get a two year old to understand that an onion won't hurt her? It finally took my nine year old to convince her and to hold it on her ear. We held it on for 45 minutes. That was all she would allow us to do until we decided to try the hair dryer. We turned it on low and kept it going for about 5-8 mins. INCREDIBLE!! I don't know if it was the combo pack (the onion and dryer) or what, however, she went to bed promptly after and slept the whole night through.

Ache be gone!

Now this is a lengthy thing so get some peroxide and 2 cotton balls.

Put peroxide on one of the balls drip like 3 drops in the bad ear, then take the other ball and stuff it in your ear leave it in for a few hours..

REPEAT AS NEEDED

Ear - Candle

The America Aussie in Brisbane, Australia - good
Someone help you and follow the instructions on the packet.

After you are finished, cut the remainder of the ear candle open and you will see one really big brown or blackish looking chunk of wax (I know it sounds nasty) but that is what was causing the pain.

You might have some pain for a few hours after, but it will go away.

DO NOT GO INTO THE COLD AFTER DOING THE EAR CANDLE!

But I promise works like a charm every time!

Baked onion cure for earache

mamie in Tucson, AZ, USA - best
I had a bad cold, and after two days it progressed into a one of my ears, so I had a terrible earache. A friend suggested I cut an onion in two, bake half of it, and lie with the very warm (hot, really) onion on my ear (infected ear up, so I was lying on my side) until the onion cooled down. It worked within two hours--no more ache, and it didn't recur. It was pretty messy but worth it. My friend said she used this cure for her daughters' earaches while they were growing up, always with good results. The warmth felt great.

Onion on ear

skye shore in Nampa ID USA 83686 - best
If you have a ear ache of any strength, take a onion and chop it in half. Then put it on your ear and take a nap or go to sleep, works the best. Try keep it on for a long period of time. It may feel very cold on your ear, but don't heat it up, your ear will eventually warm it up. I did this last night for a screaming ear ache and I feel great now!

The Olive Oil and Hot Water method

KV in Berks County, PA US - best
This works really well if you have a moderate earache. Take some extra-virgin olive oil (Italian is the best) and pour it in your ear. Leave it go for about 5 minutes for the oil to soak in, then add a cotton ball in your ear to keep the olive gases in (that's what my mom said). Then, fill up a hot water bottle and take a snooze. When you wake up, your earache will be gone! This works really well for medium-scale earaches, like the one I had last night. But for really you-are-ready-to-cringe-up-in-pain earaches, the tinkle method with a hot water bottle works best. Note: if you can't get olive oil, canola oil is and OK substitute, though it won't have as good of a result.

Garlic

Silia in British Columbia, Canada - best
Take a clove of garlic and cut it into a "T" Shape, slowly put the long skinny end into your ear, make sure it ISN'T too far into your ear or it wont come out, which is why you have to cut it in a "T"shape, to keep it from falling into your ear, put a bandaid over it and keep it in there for about 5-6 hours, it is great for pain relief and the clove of garlic sucks out the infection, dispose of the clove of garlic immediately after taking it out of you ear. You can also keep it in overnight.

Alcohol and Vinegar

My wife has not had any ear wax in about 30 years due to infections. You do not want to do this if you do not have any ear wax.
