Clove Oil
Claire in Yorkshire,United Kingdom -
Clove oil all the way! I was in the worst pain I've ever had in my entire life. I was taking painkillers constantly and was wanting to take them sooner than the next dose was due, I started to get scared that I would overdose by accident. My friend suggested clove oil from the chemist and what a remedy! I don't even need to take painkillers with this! Just put some on a cotton bud and press against tooth/gum and instant relief! It is actually a mild anesthetic and it tastes terrible but cares when it works this well?

Baking soda
Connie in Danville VA -
Thanks for the baking soda. I have been home for the last 2 days thinking of something to ease this pain. I was ready to find a pair of pliers and pull the tooth myself until I read through the website. Again, thanks it really does help. A good tip: I try to get the water as warm as I can stand it though & after adding the baking soda: I swish it around in my mouth. It does take away the pain.

Cold Milk REALLY WORKS (well, most of the time)
A Random Person in A Randon Town -
I was in the car coming home from school, when this toothache struck my mouth. I felt like I was gonna cry! :-( OMG! It hurt sooooo bad! Once I finished my homework, I didn't know about this website until I Googled it. I went on this website and found the cold milk treatment on this website. This is what you do:
1.)Get some milk out of your refrigerator (if you don't have milk, or a refrigerator, then I don't know what to tell you.
2.)Get a cup (any size)
3.)Swish the milk around the ache
As soon as you finish, your ache should be gone.
Voila! I hope you find my method useful.

minutes after the first round the throbbing
stopped and 2 hours later ALL the soreness and pain completely vanished. I give sea salt 20 stars!

Fiorinal dental
Anonymous in Anytown, AT 55555 -
I have a massive hole in my back molar, I tried everything and the only thing that has worked so far is a wonderful little capsule called fiorinal dental. It cost you about $6 from the pharmacy and no prescription needed, take two before you hit the sack and you are out like a monkey, its 500mg of paracetemol,10 mg of codeine and 2 mg of doxylamine succinate they cause drowsiness so its just the thing I was looking for.

Salt Water
Gina in Fort Walton Beach, FL USA -
I have a hole in my upper left side wisdom tooth. The pain is so severe that over-the-counter products do not work. In addition I cannot afford to go to the dentist, even with having dental insurance, so I was getting pretty desperate. I have tried clove oil and although it did take the edge off the pain, it also caused my mouth to feel like it was on fire. Then I came across this website and I read about salt water. I tried this and it helped with the pain. It did sting a bit when I was swishing the salt water but that was the salt water doing it's job. I highly recommend using salt water to help with a toothache.

Tea bags, salty tea, and clove oil
CJ in Tyler,Tx USA -
I had a tooth that the US Army did a root canal on. After a year the filling came out and I was left with just a hole in my tooth. I get abcesses and toothaches very often. I use dry tea bags and clove oil to help relieve any pain I am in. I do not take any other medications with this. I stay away from cola drinks. I also use a salty tea mixture to wash my mouth out at least 4 times a day. Why salty tea? I have no clue, but it seems to work better than salt water...a friend of mine suggested the tea. I use clove oil as needed, yea it's nasty and burns but it helps the pain once all that has gone away.

BLACK TEA BAG
Sherri in New York -
I guess different things have worked for different people. I tried the clove oil, didn't touch it. Salt water does help some, but if you're trying to get some sleep, it doesn't last very long at all. Maybe one hour or so. The thing that has worked the best for me is a black tea bag, folded up and placed against the tooth/gum that is the culprit. I leave it on for about an hour or so. It gets soggy, and the tea tastes a little bitter, but for me, it is definitely worth it because the pain leaves for at least a week. I don't know why this is, but I have heard that black tea draws out an infection. It's worth a try for you if you've never done it.
