Brush 5 times and soak with yellow listerine
Johnny Williams in Mascoutah, IL. -
I've had more toothaches than I care to remember. Be careful using some remedies, whiskey soaking can blister the gums so I would not suggest this. Most toothaches are caused by infection or irritation. This last one I had was so severe, it actually dropped me to my knees and almost made me black out. I wanted to go to the hospital. If you have a severe toothache on a weekend and want to go to the hospital, call first to make sure they have oral surgeons first, not all hospitals have them to help you. Anyway, I had had some minor toothache for about a week and I thought I would put it off another week til my next check come in. This was a bad decision. That Sunday I woke up with a toothache that just kept getting worse and more severe by the minute. I found keeping cool water on it stopped the pain so I got a big glass of ice water and cared it around, changing water in mouth every 15 seconds or so. I had to keep ice cold water on it constantly. I did this for about 27 hours straight, up all night making more ice. I finally made it to Monday and called my dentist. He said he could see me at 4pm and called in a prescription. He called in a order of pain killers that didn't help , and an order of antibiotics (amoxicillin) which killed the pain in a matter of a couple hours. It killed the infection. My conclusion, If you have a minor toothache, don't put off the dentist, see dentist fast. Brushing 5 times then soaking with yellow listerine should help remove most toothaches to get you by until you get to dentist. If that don't work, you may have a bad infection which you may be able to get ahold of some antibiotics- like from hospital, or a emergency dentist number. If you end up at the ER, you could ask them if they could give you some antibiotics in case it's infected. I really hope this helps someone. My pain is gone but somewhere their is someone going through what I did, and I hope this help. Oh, one more note: Do not use temp filling if you have a toothache, It only covers the infection and makes it worse, I know, many tried this and the result is the same- bad bad pain.

BANANA gets rid of tooth ache
Michael Rose in NY -
This is a fact . I had severe mouth pain and I ate a banana and the pain was gone. It helps to mush the banana on your teeth. It works like magic. Maybe the banana nutrilizes the acids in your mouth that are irratating the nerves in your teeth. Whatever it is It works like a miracle.

Any kind of anti-biotic
Laura P in Oregon, OH USA -
Try any kind of anti-biotic. It works wonders and if you take it for a few days that pain goes away all together.
My dentist had me use antibiotics and I was so skeptical I almost did not even pick up the prescription. But I did and lo and behold it works.

Salt Water
Lee in Halifax UK -
I tried painkillers (Paracetamol, Ibuprofen etc...) but found that waiting for them to kick in was almost as bad as the toothache itself, as you don't really know whether you've taken enough to abate the pain. You then feel compelled to take more but this makes me afraid of accidental overdose. Salt water is great as it takes away the awful stinging pain, but does leave you with a slight, numb pain that can still flare up if you accidentally bite down on the sore area, so be careful.
Swill the area with salt water, and apply dry salt to the gum around the sore tooth, but get to the dentist ASAP as this is a PERMANENT solution to the problem.
Finally, the fear of going into the dentist is nothing compared to the relief as you walk out of there having summoned up the courage to get it treated. Wonderful feeling, and no more sore tooth!!!

Wisdom tooth pain
natalie in clovis ca, -
So in my desperation I tried almost everything and I still had pain, until I tried the garlic, let me tell you it stings!! I couldn't stand it after like a minute so I spit it out, and tried an onion and it seemed to work, might be the combination of the 2!!! I have a terrible breath, but hey it was worth it! Thank god the pain is gone :) Hope it works for you!

Banana
Shane WIlleke in Madison, WI -
If you have a cracked tooth, or exposed nerve ending. Chew on a banana, not the peel, just the banana. For me, the pain is usually gone instantly.
If it's serious pain, it may take as much as 30 seconds.
When I first tried this, I was desperate for anything to help. I was taking way to many painkillers which is not a choice I prefer. Since that day, I have stopped taking any painkillers, and have yet to get anything pulled, based on financial reasons. The banana is still helping just as well as it did a month ago, except the pain does not come around as much or as frequently. I don't know if it was the banana that helped, or if it was just my mind making the banana work. Like I said I was desperate for results and held great hopes that the banana would do the trick, and then it did, like no other!

My toothache relief
Nuclear Sunrise in Swindon, UK -
I went for 5 days before I even considered that things in my cupboard could help me a lot more than £6 numbing Gels. I read through this sites ideas loads, thinking it wouldn't work. But it did work... here is what reduced my sleepless night and days from hell for 5 days to really no pain at all, I got all of them from thsi site:
Swishing mouth with loads of salt water --- It might not feel like its working first of all, but just do it every 20 mins and rinse with normal water after to get that nasty salty taste out.
The mouth wash thing, again I didn't think it would work, but just try it with the other things I suggest, you may be surprised
Baking soda swish around ya mouth, seems to work too
Just repeat all the above, it might not seem to work at first, but persist and within 24 hours the pain will be gone. It was good for me after DAYS of agony.
Thank you to everyone on this site. I think maybe my cavity got infected and that is why it hurt so much. I think that when I swished the salt water and baking powder round my mouth it neutralised the acid and prevented acidity saliva from entering the cavity, and making it worse. That is maybe why the mere act of swishing water can abate the problem for a while. But follow the steps for 24 hours and I hope that you like me will be relieved a lot of pain. Trust in what people have said here! It works. At least give it a try.

Great Remedie for someone who cant sleep with toothaches
Nida in Beverlyhills, CA -
Ok sot his is a east remedie done anywhre:
so gargle you moth with medium hot water for about 2 min and keep repeating until pain is at mild hurting temptation.
another one:I have been suffering with extreme toothache pain for the past two weeks or more and nothing was working for me not even the strongest of pain medications, well last night I tried something that a friend of mine suggested and boy did it ever work and I was able to have a decent night sleep. Last night I was in agony from a bad tooth I have and my friend told me to try massaging my hand in the area of where my thumb and first finger form form a v shape so I did and I was amazed after massaging that area on the side of where the toothache pain was ... I massaged it for about 2 minutes and it took the pain away and it lasted for hours, I tried it again this morning when I awoke and the same thing, no more pain the whole morning. Thanks to my friends advice I am suffering from no more toothache but I still have my dentist appointment booked in 2 weeks time. The massing of that area has something to do with a pressure point and nerve endings ... I hope this is of some help to anyone who has a toothache although because it worked for me doesn't mean it will work for everyone.
