My Mom told me about hot lemonade many years ago--it works!

Carla in Fort Worth, TX - best
At the first sign of a bladder infection, (burning when urinating) I get myself some lemons and make a big glass of lemonade (no sugar) and drink it. Then every hour or so, I drink a large glass of water. If I still feel burning, I take AZO Standard. If I catch it early enough, it doesn't get to an infection stage. If not, the next time I will try the D-Mannose suggested by someone else.

Bar soap gone bad

x - bar soap user sherri in pennsylvania, usa - best
I work at a nursing home and the rule is no bars of soap in the whirlpool tub, only liquid soap because there is a certain bacteria that grows on bar soap and causes bladder infections. I had a chronic bladder infection that I would cure by antibiotics and sure enough it would come right back. My doctor was stumped. I quit using bar soap in the shower. guess what? no more bladder infection. Try switching to liquid soap folks. I hope this helps prevent them for you.

Grapeseed extract

Laura Dennis in Akron , Oh USA - best
Grapefruit seed extract is effective anti viral and anti-bacterial agent that work well with many different types of infection, including bladder infections.
3 to 4 drops in a glass of water every 4 hr.
You can use it with unsweetened cranberry juice if you wish or you can add 3 drops of wild oregano oil which is also effective in clearing infection.
When the infection is cleared remember to still drink plenty of water and to empty the bladder regularly.

Water and cranberry juice

Emily in Fort Worth, TX - best
The best cure by far is just drinking as much water as possible and also drinking a glass of cranberry juice about once every 2 hours. Now this wont get rid of the infection but it will get rid of all the pain when going you were feeling making it a heck of a lot easier to resume a seemingly normal life till you can make it to the doctor.

laura's cure

Vicki in Manchester,Ky - good
Take a teacup of hot water, like you would use for a cup of coffee or tea, and put 2 tablespoons of vinegar in it and add some honey to help with the taste. I admit it taste terrible no matter how much honey you add, but it does work. Hold your nose and turn it up and empty the cup. It will take about 20 to 30 minutes and you will start to feel relief. The back pain stops and the urge to go stops and so does the burning when you go. You will have to do this twice a day for about 3 days to clear it up completely. But it does work, my aunt told me about it one night when i had a bad UTI and it helped me..

D-Mannose natural cure - no antibiotics, no doctor.

Rebekah in Alaska - best
Get D-Mannose, either the powder or the capsule from any place that sells supplements or a natural food store. I got the powder. As the label directs, take 1 teaspoon in water 4 times a day. Drink only water all day long, as much as you can, the more the better. Take AZO standard or its equivelent to kill the pain (Phenazopyridine Hydrochloride). You can buy AZO Standard at Walmart or almost any store that sells feminine products. AZO Standard will turn your urine orange/yellow/brownish but it will not get rid of the infection. After 2 days stop taking AZO & let your urine return to clear (this should only take one day if your drinking alot of water). If you feel no pain when you urinate & your urine is clear (not colored from the AZO) then D-Mannose is working. Once the pain is gone keep taking D-Mannose for 3 or 4 more days to make sure the infection is gone. If your urine is clear (not colored from the AZO) & you feel pain when you urinate, then the D-Mannose is not working for you. I spent $30.00 on the D-Mannose supplement compared to going to the doctor for $200.00. Best cure I have ever tried!

Natural antioxidants

Sarah in Yakima , Wa USA - best
I had looked at this site and added several things together. It really works well!

In blender place:
2 cups Welch's 100% Concord grape juice
2 cups Blueberries (fresh preferred)
2 1/2 cups pitted dark cherries (Frozen preferred)
1/4 cup lemon juice concentrate

Blend together until well mixed. Frozen cherries make it like a smoothie. Drink at least one 32 oz glass a day. Infection was gone in three days.

Urinate after sexual intercourse

Di in Gulf Shores Alabama - best
I very seldom get an infection, but sometimes it would attack the next morning when I would get up. I started writing down everything I did prior to an infection. Behold it was sex, went on line and yes sex at night will cause infection the next day. So after sex, go to the bathroom and urinate it removes the bacteria that you get. I have not had an infection for 2 years. When I did just flush with lots of water and it work great within a couple of hours.

Tried everything - this works every time

Anonymous in Los Angeles, CA USA - best
I've had chronic UTIs (I'm talking once every one to two MONTHS) for the past 11 years. Lately, it's down to a few times a year because I've learned how to prevent them.

So here's what's worked for me:

1. To prevent a bladder infection, I just take a cranberry extract supplement each day (CranMax is good). I find it's hard for me to drink enough unsweetened cranberry juice to make an impact. If you've had chronic UTI's in the past as I've had, part of the problem is also that your bladder is torn and bleeding from past infections, so for that I add d-mannose as well so that over time, my bladder heals.

My problem however is in my busy life I often forget to take these every day, and then WHAM there's a bladder infection! So...

2. To stop immediate pain (this does not cure it, but numbs you to the symptoms) get Azo-Standard. Not their cranberry supplement but their main product that deadens all symptoms and pain. Again, this doesn't cure the infection and your urine will turn a BRIGHT orange.

3A. I recently found an excellent D-Mannose formula designed to cure bladder infections. It's called "U.T. Vibrance Crisis Intervention Formula." I got it at Whole Foods. It should be available at your local health food store or online. Get it and follow the directions. Yes, it's $34.00 but it's worth it.

3B. If you can't get the crisis intervention formula, here's what I recommend that also works for me...

Every 3 waking hours, take 5 grams of D-Mannose. I get the powder, so with 2 grams per teaspoon, I take 2 1/2 teaspoons every 3 hours. I drink 3 liters of water as quickly as I can over the course of the day - more if I can stand it. I'm not a fan of any sweetened juices because those have digestible sugars that allow more yeast and unfriendly bacteria to grow in your body. But that's just my personal preference.

Along with the D-Mannose, I take 2 - 3 grams of cranberry extract one to two times a day.

Keep in mind that even once the pain goes away, the bacteria may not be completely gone and the UTI can flare up again the next time its aggravated (such as during intercourse, extreme exercise, etc.).

So even when the pain is gone in the first 24 hours, I recommend continuing this regimen for about a week - just like you would with antibiotics (ewww!) even after the pain has subsided.

This information changed my life once I discovered it through trial and error. These UTIs have been the bane of my existence and I'm so glad to see real help out there. My doctors had told me my only hope was to go on proactive antibiotics, meaning a low dose of them EVERY DAY. Can you imagine?

And all I needed was D-Mannose!

A little bit of sugar helps the medicine go down. :)

combination remedy

sara in NM - three stars
So I woke up this morning with a weird sensation when I peed, and over the course of 4 really frequent urinations it escalated from slightly unusual to full blown pain when I pee with blood in it. I did a lil research and ran to the store to pick up some d-mannose with cranActin (the brand is solaray), CranAid tea by traditional medicinals (instead of cranberry juice straight up I figured it was more concentrated plus it has a ton of herbs good for urinary health and healing) some vitamin C and goldenseal to fight the infection and this stuff thats called Kombucha tea by a brand called synergy. Kombucha is a raw drink made from various cultures. Its got a STRONG taste that you just have to force yourself thru but by the end of the bottle you get used to it. Its good for balancing your body and has enzymes and probiotics in it and it comes mixed with different fruit juices, if you wish, so I got the cranberry mix. its been 3 hours since I started drinking everything and taken everything and I've got to say the blood appears to have disappeared and the pain has gotten significantly less. I hope this helps someone out!
