White sage smoke and tea
Alana in Minneapolis, MN USA -
White sage is known to kill germs in the air, I read that sage was burned in hospitals to keep airborne viruses at bay. Try burning white sage in your home while you are recovering. It is a nice thing to do when you are uncomfortable, and it may help to kill germs in your sinus passages.
If you'd like, try a tea using the leaves, sage is a good remedy for sore throat, and it helps to reduce the amount of mucous.
Also, while you sleep, elevate your head to keep mucous from settling. In my logic, gravity helps it to drain and relieves pressure.

Congestion Clearing 'Tea'
Keaton in Chicago, IL -
I've suffered with chronic sinus infection for the past 4-5 years. Although I usually go on Meds given to me by my doctor, I needed SOMETHING to relieve my congestion and pain while the medicine took it's time to work. I finally found something that is soothing and also loosens my congestion.
Juice of two lemons
1 tsp grated ginger
2 tsp grated lemon peel
1 cinnamon stick
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
½ cup water
Combine everything in a small sauce pan, and simmer over medium low heat for ten minutes. Add 3 large tablespoons of the 'teat' to a small mug of warm water and drink. It's actually really tasty!
This burns a little bit, but really clears the sinuses and soothes the throat. I use this, as well as saline rinsing, and feel better every single day.

There are multiple things you can do
Kim Miller in SC -
I have suffered from chronic sinusitis for 10 years and have had sinus surgery. I am on 2 preventative medications, a decongestant and a nasal spray, to help prevent them but they come back. When I get one, I double up on the decongestant and am normally prescribed an antibiotic. In addition, I use a neti pot twice a day to help keep me cleared out. For my sore throat, I gargle with warm salt water. I drink plenty of water and eat lots of brothy soap. You should avoid jumping into pools and flying as these activities seem to trigger sinus problems. Make sure you keep your distance from sick people and wash your hands frequently. I carry sanitizer with me everywhere.

Tiger Balm
Anthony in lakeside, Ca -
This remedy came from my Brazilian Nanny. Rub Tiger Balm on your forehead. Start out with a little bit as it will sting. This is not a cure but will help relieve the sinus pressure on your forehead.
Becareful with this one as Tiger Balm will sting and burn if you use too much. I just use it right before I go to bed and it helps clear up my sinuses for a while.
I do this inconjuction with sinus rinses, hot tea, etc.

In addition to Wendy in WI's comments about milk, SILK...
REBroker in Western NC -
Being a milk lover since early childhood, and finding out about the link between milk and sinusitis, as well as other health risks, I have experimented with SILK as an alternative to milk.
For the last year I have been concentrating on a healthier intake. This is partly because of my aging process at age 62, and partly because of the prostrate cancer I am now fighting. I have noticed with Silk, I have had the same problem with sinusitis flare-ups as with milk and ice cream.
In addition, after over 30 years usage of RX medications for hiatal hernia and acid reflux disease I have started using Apple Cider Vinegar, all natural with the Mother, (dust like particles that are settled out on the bottom of the jar), in it. I initially used it once or twice daily, 2-3 tbsp. in 4-8 oz water. After a few weeks I needed it less and less. It is better than any of the Rx pills, and has healed my gi tract. Now, when I feel the discomfort starting, I maintain my gi tract health with a dose or two, usually every 4 - 6 weeks.
I'm glad to read that ASV has other medicinal uses also.
Maybe Grandma was right, an apple a day, keeps the Dr. away.

Ear Candling - Multi Applications
Seashore Lady in Lower 48 -
This treatment was recommended to me by a reputable acupuncturist.
Since I have heavy ear wax build-up from my ears and chronic sinus infections and multiple allergies, I figured I had nothing to lose.
For the first part of the treatment, use 3 candles in each ear at one sitting. Then 10 days later, burn 2 candles in each ear at one time.
I used muslin ear candles dipped in beeswax and got excellent results.
For best results, make sure there is smoke coming out of the bottom (narrow end) of the candle before inserting. Turn the candle tip in the ear for a tight seal. Each candles takes about 15-20 minutes to burn down to 2 inches or so. Run remaining part of candle to extinguish.
Consult product package or search the Web for complete instructions on how to use ear candles. DO NOT USE ALONE; have someone watch the candle as it burns.
Amazon.com is a good resource for buying multi packs of good quality candles.

Large ZipLock Storage bag vs Neti Pot
J R Petersen in Provo, UT -
I have never tried using a neti pot, but I find a zip lock storage bag works for me. Fill the back with watever solution you are familiar with, then bit a hole in one of the corners of the bag. After draining the air out from the bag, insert the bitten corner of the bag in one nostril and apply pressure as desired. Do this just like you would a neti pot. Hope this helps.

White onion
Diane C. in AZ -
I haven't tried this yet but I'm going to tonight. I read that if you boil white onion and cover your head with a towel that the fumes will relieve your sinus. Also, what I read stated that onions had antivirul qualities.

Betadine to treat sinusitis
Belinda Robinson in Halethorpe, MD -
I regularly use a twice-daily sinus rinse with a Nasaline Irrigator and home-made saline.
When I feel like I am coming down with a cold, I add Betadine (1/4 tsp into 8-12 oz warm saline) to each wash until symptoms subside (1-2 wks). The Betadine (or generic) acts like a local antibiotic wash, and helps the sinusitis from getting ahold. I have been diagnosed with IgA Deficiency. Because this rinse works so well, I've needed fewer courses of oral antibiotics. This has also seemed to rebuild my immune system, as I seem to catch fewer colds.
I also wear an N95 facemask and use hand sanitizer when I fly.
