Ear Candling - Multi Applications

Seashore Lady in Lower 48 - best
This treatment was recommended to me by a reputable acupuncturist.

Since I have heavy ear wax build-up from my ears and chronic sinus infections and multiple allergies, I figured I had nothing to lose.

For the first part of the treatment, use 3 candles in each ear at one sitting. Then 10 days later, burn 2 candles in each ear at one time.

I used muslin ear candles dipped in beeswax and got excellent results.

For best results, make sure there is smoke coming out of the bottom (narrow end) of the candle before inserting. Turn the candle tip in the ear for a tight seal. Each candles takes about 15-20 minutes to burn down to 2 inches or so. Run remaining part of candle to extinguish.

Consult product package or search the Web for complete instructions on how to use ear candles. DO NOT USE ALONE; have someone watch the candle as it burns.

Amazon.com is a good resource for buying multi packs of good quality candles.

Large ZipLock Storage bag vs Neti Pot

J R Petersen in Provo, UT - best
I have never tried using a neti pot, but I find a zip lock storage bag works for me. Fill the back with watever solution you are familiar with, then bit a hole in one of the corners of the bag. After draining the air out from the bag, insert the bitten corner of the bag in one nostril and apply pressure as desired. Do this just like you would a neti pot. Hope this helps.

White onion

Diane C. in AZ - good
I haven't tried this yet but I'm going to tonight. I read that if you boil white onion and cover your head with a towel that the fumes will relieve your sinus. Also, what I read stated that onions had antivirul qualities.

Kathryn in Hardin - best
I found that not many of the meds that they put out work, but I found that a lot of rest and lemon tea is the best thing.

Betadine to treat sinusitis

Belinda Robinson in Halethorpe, MD - best
I regularly use a twice-daily sinus rinse with a Nasaline Irrigator and home-made saline.

When I feel like I am coming down with a cold, I add Betadine (1/4 tsp into 8-12 oz warm saline) to each wash until symptoms subside (1-2 wks). The Betadine (or generic) acts like a local antibiotic wash, and helps the sinusitis from getting ahold. I have been diagnosed with IgA Deficiency. Because this rinse works so well, I've needed fewer courses of oral antibiotics. This has also seemed to rebuild my immune system, as I seem to catch fewer colds.

I also wear an N95 facemask and use hand sanitizer when I fly.

grama's old sinus remedy

Ashley .N.W in lakeland FL - good
Boil some hot water, then pour it into a basin.
Then take vaporizing cold rub or Vicks mix it into the hot water it should melt, then get a towel put it over your head and inhale the vapors. This will help clear your nose. But if your throat is soar at the same time, save some of the hot water you boil let it cool, pour it into a cup then mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar or salt, then goggle for a few minutes. If this does not work goggle with hydrogen peroxide. I usually swab the back of my throat with it, it really helps.
Also you can buy this shilng oil it like vick but it in liquid form you apply it to a tissue then inhale it or you can rub it by the side of your throat it really works.

Sinus Pressure Trick

Darren in Tacoma, WA - best
To Jesse In Colorado:
The sinus pressure trick really works! I've never had such instant results from a remedy. Granted, I will pay attention to the other posts as well, and probably change my diet as a result... but for anyone looking to clear up mild to moderate sinus pressure instantly, try this trick!
(Put your thumb in a "thumbs up" position, apply pressure right between your eyes, rub back and forth, and at the same time, rub your tongue against the front of the roof of your mouth) You should feel results within a few seconds. It's amazing!

The role of fungus in chronic sinusitis

Nancy in Pennsylvania in central Pennsylvania - best
If you suffer from chronic sinusitis, you must read the Mayo clinic research in the role of fungus in chronic sinusitis (Google "Mayo Clinic and chronic sinusitis"). Great information, but unfortunately, they have not yet come up with treatment suggestions. I also recommend that you read the excellent piece "Sinus FAQ" by Reid Goldsborough on AllergyBuyersClub.com.

After decades of suffering, I decided there HAD to be a better answer than antibiotics which weren't helping me much anyway. I had been using my neti pot with plain saline daily and it was not helping much either, so I turned to the internet. I tried the hydrogen peroxide recommended by contributors on this site (thank you) and it really DID help loosen and remove old, hard mucous. (Don't go crazy with concentration, though. I used 1 tablespoon to 2 cups of saline - about 5%. I tried higher concentrations, but when I hit 20%, the result was painful swelling.) While the hydrogen peroxide helped get the old stuff out, it did not kill my raging infection - even after several weeks of use. From Goldsborough's article, I got the idea to try Betadine. See his comments regarding concentration. I used 1/2 teaspoon to 2 cups saline several times a day. The result was swift and dramatic. Within days, I was much improved. After ten days, there was no more discolored mucus and my allergy symptoms were sharply reduced.

After suffering for so long, I could not believe I had found something that actually works! Betadine (and its generic equivalent) kills bacteria, fungus, and even viruses, so there is a good chance it will kill whatever is killing you. It is cheap and readily available in the first aid section of your drugstore. One more note: you should get a neti pot if you don't have one. Users seem to rate the stainless steel pots as the best (I agree). You will probably have to purchase online. Google "stainless steel neti pot."

Stop drinking milk

Wendy in WI - best
I have suffered with sinus infections for years. I finally went to a nutritionist as a last resort before surgery. She told me one of the biggest causes is milk. Not cheese or butter ect... but just milk and ice cream because of the live protein in these two that our bodies were never ment to break down. Read labels, lots of things have milk in them. It is hard but it was so worth it!! She also had me eat 6 servings of legumes everyday for 3 months until I felt totally better. Then I cut down to 3 servings. The legumes have a type of fiber that cleans out your body of the bad stuff and believe me it was worth it. I felt like a million bucks. I stopped eating the beans and cheated on the milk...it all came back and now I am starting over:( It takes time but you will feel great!!!

Apple Cider Vinegar by mouth

John in Somerset U.K. - best
I think the infection was due to candida (yeasts). It affected my ears (deafness due to fluid) skin (my tears made the skin round my eyes red and I had sore red skin under my nose and behind my ears. Honey seemed to help then made it worse!

I applied the vinegar with a cotton bud (it stings) and drank a little regularly. The infection cleared up quickly in a couple of days.

It seemed to come back after a few days and the cotton bud trick didn't work! I started to drink the vinegar again and everything cleared up as before.

I drink a little every day now - don't think much of the taste but I feel great.

Collodial Silver Nasal Spray Cures Sinus Infections

Anonymous in Anytown, AT 55555 - best
I was on antibiotics at least 6 to 7 times a year from sinus infections. They kind of kept things at bay but never completely cleared up my sinus. I was afraid to take a vacation without taking along antibiotics. Since I ended up in the hospital on one trip from a very acute infection. Then I found the Source Naturals nasal spay. I used it for about a week and my infection was TOTALLY cleared up. I have been using this for about 7 years now. I very rarely get a sinus problem but if one starts to flare up I just use this for a few days and it is gone!!! I recently went to my Ear Nose and Throat doctor (for something unrelated) and she was surprised to see me since it has been years. I told her about the collodial silver nasal spray hoping she might help her other patients and of course she just looked at me with that typical condensending MD look (do they take a course in that at med school) and changed the subject. You would think that she might be at least mildly interested hearing this from a patient who was in her office for several years every month or so with an acute infection. Oh well!!

BTW I only use Source Naturals because it works for me. I tried a few other brands but they were not effective. Not to say that there are other equally effective brands (I haven't tried them all) but this one is good.
